The Opportunity

Short Breaks delivers a service for children aged 5-18 with SEND. The Short Breaks service provides afterschool, weekend and school holiday respite for children and families.

Providing a meaningful and fun experience opening opportunity to try new things in a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all. The children and young people (CYP) that attend, have a variety of additional needs including learning difficulties, social & emotional, physical and medical.

We’re looking for weekend team members to join us as we continue to grow! So if you are looking to do some weekend work, need additional work over the holidays or just generally want to do a bit extra over the weekends and have a passion for learning through play for children of SEND, this could well be the opportunity for you, maintaining the fun factor!

Saturday and Sunday 09.45 – 16.15 with a 20min lunch break. You could do both or either/or Saturday or Sunday however we have the greatest need for Sunday at the moment.

Reporting directly to the Short Breaks Senior Lead, we are looking for an enthusiastic and SEND passionate Support Worker to assist our team with the aim to meet the end goal of our Trust: to collaborate and build a successful community of mainstream schools and SEND provisions to ensure our pupils and students have the education they deserve.

Your Role

  • Supervision of all children attending the provision
  • Set up play spaces
  • Ensure activities are safe, creative, inclusive and appropriate
  • Ensure the provision is clean and tidy, adhering to hygiene routines throughout the day
  • Lead activities such as role play, outdoor play, arts, drama, storytelling, crafts and cookery
  • Attend to children’s interpersonal & intimate care needs (toileting, changing, administering medication, peg feed) Manage behaviours that challenge us in accordance with Brunel policies and procedures
  • Be a positive role model to children and young people
  • Provide children with drinks and snacks where appropriate ensuring health and hygiene standards are adhered to
  • Consult with children and involve them in session activities
  • Contribute to children individual skill plans, documenting observations during sessions
  • Share information with the leadership team completing paperwork where necessary

Your Experience

Our person specification attached will contain the full areas of skills and experience, but it is really important to us that you feel comfortable and confident in your role, so although you may not have everything desirable, there are some essential features our appointee will need to have and these include:

  • Model professional communication with CYP
  • Ability to provide documented records on CYP participation & achievement
  • Able to follow instruction
  • Basic ICT skills
  • Effective communicator
  • Ability to remain calm when dealing with behaviour that challenges us
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Be able to work in a team
