As a developing Multi Academy Trust, now is an exciting time to join us as we are set to open a brand new provision, formed as part of BASIS in Headlands Industrial Estate, Swindon – our “Links” Provision. Lead by our experienced SEND Specialist Teacher, this is an all new SEND provision offering inclusion and delivery of support programmes to a cohort of children aged 11 – 14, who require additional support due to complex needs which can include Autism or SCID (social communication and interaction difficulty). This is as much a challenging as rewarding role, and you will be part of an enthusiastic and supportive team of SEND experienced education professionals to deliver through inclusion and participation, opportunities for our students to explore and learn through their dedicated support plan.
With a flair for celebrating the smallest but most impacting successes of our students, retaining a patience in the knowledge this role comes with good days and challenging ones, we at Links will strive to meet the end goal of our Trust: To collaborate and build a successful community of mainstream schools and SEND provisions to ensure each and every one of our pupils have the education they deserve.
The attached job description will detail your role in full. But at a glance, some of the key fields you will be responsible for include (but are not limited to):
- Promote the inclusion and participation of all CYP with SEND/autism spectrum disorder or identified social communication and interaction difficulty and/or other additional needs ensuring they have equal opportunities to learn and develop
- To support teachers and leaders to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate the unique needs of the SEND/ASC/SCID learner to access intervention/therapy programmes and the curriculum.
- To contribute specifically to the creation of a supportive, nurturing environment for service users
- When needed, to act as escort in the transportation of students to and from the base
- Use SEND/ASC specific specialist skills to facilitate access where appropriate, access to the curriculum and maximise the independence of the student
- To keep records, contribute to reports and carry out assessments using a variety of media and evaluation strategies.
Our person specification attached will contain the full areas of skills and experience, but it is really important to us that you feel comfortable and confident in your role, so although you may not have everything desirable, there are some essential features our appointee will need to have and these include:
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Basic ICT skills
- Have some knowledge of the autistic profile of need
- Have good organisational and time management skills
- An effective English communicator both written and verbal
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
